What is a network in the world of the computer?
A network
is basically a number of computers, mainframes, servers, network devices,
peripherals, and other devices connected to each other for allowing the sharing
of data. Internet is a prime example of a network, which is able to connect
millions of people all over the world. To implement network you need network devices or equipment.
The main function of Network equipment is combining,
splitting, boosting, switching, and directing data packets along with a computer
network. Network equipment mainly helps in connection of devices and sharing of
information. The layout or topography of the connected devices determines the network
structure or design. Bus, mesh, tree, ring, star, and hybrid networks are the
names of some popular network topologies. The parameters for network equipment
include the following criteria: protocol, device type, and interface type. Different
types of popular networking equipment are gateways, bridges, hubs, switches,
routers, and transceivers.
The Network Expansion Module is one such
network device. Module Networking
helps in the splitting of optical signals through a single-mode optical fibre.
The standard product usually will consist of 1 or 2 input ports and range up to
3 and 16 output ports. The Module in a compact package uses advanced planar
technology and fused fibre for offering ultra-low excess loss with low polarization-dependent loss. They are mainly designed for optical networking applications.
A WAN the interface card is an expansion module. WAN
interface card or "WIC"
is a kind of special network interface controller card manufactured by Cisco
which allows a network device like a router for connecting and transmitting
data over a Wide Area Network or WAN. A WIC is comprised of a built-in channel
service data unit interface for connecting with a digital circuit and also
yields line monitoring and error correction.
